FGFC: Burial Ground: The Nights of Terror

Main review: Haiku edition.

Zombie movie? Yes!
Only a few things were fun.
I was quite let down...

Secondary thoughts a.k.a. I ramble

So yeah, when I heard the movie pick for this month's Final Girl Film Club was going to be “Burial Ground: The Nights of Terror” I was psyched. Who doesn't love a good zombie movie? The answer to that of course is EVERYBODY loves a good zombie movie, or at least they should. Which is why it hurt me a little extra when this movie just didn't click with me.

I think the most upsetting thing to me was that it just wasn't scary at all. A lot of it ended up being predictable, even as zombie flicks go. The “fighting” scenes were pretty much just a zombie grabbing someones throat and then they just...stand there. It's sad because the opportunity was there. The whole broad daylight thing had promise but even that really fell short. In fact it really hurt the makeup and gore effects, which in the dark were gross and creepyish, but in the light ended up kind of funny and strange.

On the flip side there were a few things that were either done right, or were just downright creepy as all fuck. Ok so there really is only one thing done right completely that is coming to mind to me and that is the ending. The everyone is annihilated and gets et ending may get used often but it is still pretty gruesome and messed up. I'm a sucker for a hopeless ending I suppose.

“Burial Ground” certainly got top marks in the fucking creepy department with Michael (Peter Bark), who plays the young son of Evelyn (Mariangela Giordano). Bark, is clearly a full grown man, though a dwarf. That alone would be good enough, but he also have a quite obvious Oedipus complex which once it is paid off at the end when Evelyn decides it is a good idea to breastfeed the now zombie Michael well that takes us up to Creepy as Fuck! Of course the attempt ends with him biting off a boob, you know as a zombie would...

Really what else can I say, nothing. So instead I allow you to gaze deeply into Michael's eyes!

And now just as I come back I must take another break again as by the time anyone sees this I'll be on a “lovely” Greyhound bus on my way from Michigan back to Oregon. FINALLY moving home. Then we'll be back in business. Which means hopefully no more silence (and more good scary movies).

Excelsior!
